Altar of Revolution / Ice-Sculpture Nr. 8
11/21/2015 Luxor/Egypt
On the west bank of the Nile - opposite the Luxor Temple with its 21m high obelisk - a block of ice was installed by Egyptians in a business complex that was newly built and neglected shortly before the revolution. In addition, an approx. 40 m long line of ice - like a frozen sunbeam - aligned with the obelisk in front of the Luxor Temple. The entire installation consisted of a wall drawing and 1000 liters of frozen Nile water. In addition, incense was offered at the sun altar in the tradition still practiced in Egypt today. After a few hours, the ice installation was completely destroyed by government forces against the will of the Egyptians involved - and despite the proper rental of the room and clarification with the local police forces.
