Stone – landscape – hole - roof

January-May 2008
Hotel Mühltalhof

A granite foundling of 15 tons forms the central element of the installation at the entrance of the hotel Mühltalhof. This stone was found 10 years ago during drain works in the area of Peilstein.
It emerged about 350 million years ago in the cooling process of liquid magma in an air bladder. It looks like a huge egg of dinosaurs or a planet fallen from the sky. The massive and perfectly shaped stone is embedded on a landscape island which had been transplanted and created from the Mühltalhof’s family in a joint action. All plants were taken from the Mühltal - forest in April 2008. The piece of landscape and its centred stone is placed underneath the big hole of the fine concrete roof. It protects the forecourt of the entrance and offers a roof to the visitors in the open air even before entering the building.
