Past and future – river of remembrance: „Große Mühl“ - Nile

In the project “Past and future – river of remembrance: „Große Mühl“ – Nile” a moment of the past becomes reality in the present: The “Große Mühl” flows into the Nile.

Joachim Eckl poured water from the Nile into a clay vase. He had drawn this water from the river in Cairo before and then taken back upstream to Luxor. He then put a small green bottle filled with water of the “Große Mühl” and closed with a metal cap into this vessel with Nile water. He had bailed this water in Neufelden in 2003.

In the moment of delivery of the clay vase to the Nile, the river is able to remember its past: the water passes the place of the course of the river for the second time from which it had been drawn before.
When the metal cap of the bottle rusts, the waters of the two rivers merge. The „Große Mühl“ flows into the Nile.
Past and future can be found in one vessel, in one river at the same time.
