Station

“Die Station“ in Neufelden is a place of artistic experiments where social sculptures on socially charged issues are being realised within the series “Land in sight” every year. The year 2008 was guided by the motto “The commuter’s Grand Prix”: Scenic installations and performances with more than 50 participants made experiences of the over 17.000 commuters of the district Rohrbach visible and tangible. The audience moved around in a guided tour through sensualized worlds.

Joachim Eckl developed and presented an impulse releasing project for a sustainable future: A prototype for electronic hitch hiking which changes and simplifies the communication of drivers and passengers. The innovative software connects provider and consumer by sms-gateway for commuters who are travelling on the B 127 between Linz and Rohrbach and searching for a lift. Car pools can be formed within seconds. Whoso owning a mobile phone can join the growing network drives and passengers and thus have a positive impact on the fuel consumption and the volume of traffic.

Joachim Eckl gathered once again dozens of participants for this project, just like in recent years: directors, actors, musicians, and authors devoted their works to the area of “Die Station” and the major topic of traffic. “Die Station” in Neufelden - equipped with countless tires, trains and a real ship – was an ideal scene to confess in the car-confessional, listen to honking horns or attend a live taxi ride in the rear of a car, listening to Roland Barthes and his observations about the Citroën DS.

Most prominent guests of this year were the two Austrian and internationally known artists Edgar Honetschläger and Leo Schatzl who showed two pieces of art in “Die Station” in Neufelden. The Tiger Lillies wrote two Songs dedicated to “The commuter’s Grand Prix” which were used by the choreographer Jochen Ulrich and his company from Landestheater Linz.
