Time-shower

A shower of time

24 standing still clocks

Permanent installation by Joachim Eckl
Station Neufelden

The 24 old station clocks come from the central station in Linz. Joachim Eckl removed and salvaged them partly by himself. All of the 98 hands of the two-faced clocks stand still and show the time of their decommissioning at the station. They are being installed as “time-showers” in the waiting room. Size and number of the clocks make the standstill of these familiar timepieces be experienced like a massive, nearly frightening jam of time. They still work in the viewer’s inside. Time seems to flow out of the standing still clocks – as the viewer starts to perceive himself as a “Schauer” (“watcher” – the writing on the clocks) - he starts waiting. A real “time-shower” overwhelms the “watcher” in this waiting room, experiencing the ensemble of clocks, himself and time as common “fact”.
