People worldwide are exposed to economic, political, cultural and climatic movements. Different mentalities and conditions of living which are effected by these movements cause tensions between nations, states and people. Movements driven by needs build huge “waves” similar to migration phenomena. Processes of impact, friction and mixing spread over cultures, religions and forms of life on the whole globe.
Also LAND IN SIGHT has been swept by a huge wave: After the migration project “All in the same boat” in 2007 and “The commuters’ Grand Prix” referring to the regional mobility 2008 – several projects of different formats have now been realised under the label “wave” in 2009.
Specific cultural impulses have been started in the region and beyond by creating over a dozen of events like performances, concerts, installations, readings and premieres in the time of April to September 2009. The aim was to address, reach and connect people of different cultural domains by creating selective waves through cultural performances.
Closed versus open cultural event
Unlike in previous years the notion of a closed event for a specific group of people has been realised in 2009. This allowed greatest possible freedom and a certain degree of protection at the same time. The specific groups of the audience were selected and invited considering the specific cultural experience: Teachers, pupils, environmental engineers, bank- and hotel employees and women from the region. The group became a performer which played its certain role in the whole cultural picture of “wave”.
Wave – picture of action
The substantial aspect of “wave” was the creation of a socio-ethnological study of observing the self-organisation of different groups of society while getting water. This process of getting water is considered to be a primary process: Every group of audience was part of the installation “liquid balance” to draw water in a conjointly process. Different forms of organisation emerged during this task which were documented and observed.
Overall picture
Basically – from the bird’s eye view – the LAND IN SIGHT series of events aims to create a social large-scale sculpture, a social organism which develops and shapes in the period of 6 months in and about from within the “Station Neufelden”. Community-impulses, movements, moods, atmospheres and symbols shall be produced and created. On the breeding ground of different living and cultural backgrounds an image of society of multi facets will be generated. This image affects the lives and existence of all person involved by the power of culture in a connective way.
Dining together
At the end of each event actors and audience dined together in “Der Station”. In a cosy get together people could share perceptions, sensitivities and interests.
