Timeless watch-man

Restoration and reconstruction of the former station clock of the central station in Linz in front of „Die Station“

After millions of “watchers” have taken a glance at the tower of the station clock of the central station in Linz to read off the time for 55 years, movement and hands were already dismantled in may 2001 in course of the demolition works. In 1947 it had been erected as symbol for the “most modern train station of Europe” at the time with a glockenspiel based on the model of the “Residenzplatz” in Salzburg. The 32tons heavy body was transported from Linz to Neufelden. Today it is placed on 4metres high concrete columns and is being used as lifted exhibition room, which casts an eye on “Die Station” and watches it through the hole of the former pointer axis. The clock case works as accessible camera obscura like the inside of an eye, where you can experience the basic principle of human perception –to/the watch.
